SHAHDAG – 4243 m
Shahdag (Şah (king), dag (mountain)) - a mountain peak in the eastern part of the Greater Caucasus, located in Azerbaijan. The altitude of the peak is 4243 metres above the sea level. It's a second highest peak of Azerbaijan.
Brown colored, without a snow-cap of summit, Shahdag reminds a huge castle, towering above it's neighborhood. It is composed mostly of limestone and dolomite. The landscape admires you by beauty of waterfalls and high-mountain meadows. There are two lakes in the western part of the Shahdag Massif, among the rocks at an altitude of about 3700-3800 m. The path to them lies through the western "gates" of Shahdag. Along this narrow gorge flows one of the affluents of the Shahnabad River. From this side erosion, caused by the influence of wind and precipitation, is very strongly destroying Shagdag. At altitudes above 3700 m there are glaciers. The area of glaciers in the last decade is rapidly declining. At the moment, its area is 1.1 km².
TOUR PROGRAMME
Day 1
20.00 Meeting in the Khinalig village2100 m, Overnight in a rural house, acclimatization dinner - national food, preparation for the next day, rest.
Day 2
06.00 Waking up.
07.00 Moving by the four wheel drive car through Shah Yaylag plateau to the bottom of Shakh Dag mount 2500 m - 17 km. After take 2-3 hour trekking to the Base Camp of Shakh Dag 3100 m. On the way you will see waterfall. The distance is 2.5 km, the altitude difference is 600 m.
In the base camp. Camp arrangement, dinner, preparation for climbing, rest, overnight in tents, acclimatization.
Day 3
04.00 Waking up
05.00 Start climbing from east slop, continue through Shakh Dag path 3800 m and glacier on north side near the top of mountain. After 7-8 hours we will be at the summit.
The altitude difference will be 1400 m.13.00 At the summit. After short break we will turn back.
18.00 In the base camp
Day 4
07.00 Waking up
08.00 Leaving base camp. Trek to the car and drive back to the Khinalig.
11.00 In the village. Lunch in the village and returning to Baku.
The schedule depends on the speed of the group and bad weather possibility is not considered. In case of bad weather we can stay max. 1 day on mountains and there will be additional cost.

It is possible to climb in 3 days with tough acclimatization.
